battle of apps

Battle of the Apps: Winners!

Last night, No. 1 UNC beat No. 1 Gonzaga 71 – 65 in a back-and-forth, nail biter. Even though the game offered quite a bit of lead changes and officiating drama, we know what match you were really looking forward to: our Battle of the Apps.

A few weeks ago we launched a campaign to determine which app would win in our NCAA March Madness inspired, Battle of the Apps Contest. We wanted to know, when pitted app versus app, which one came out on top. Our team conducted research to create our own Sweet Sixteen – a collection of top-rated apps separated into four “brackets,” aka app categories:

  • Business/Productivity
    Dropbox; Gmail; Evernote; Salesforce
  • Chat
    Slack; Skype; Hangouts; Whatsapp
  • Social
    Facebook; Twitter; Instagram; Snapchat
  • Convenience/Lifestyle
    Uber; Airbnb; Amazon; Waze

You\’ve voted across all our platforms from Twitter to Facebook to this very blog. We\’ve gathered up the results and [drumroll please] the winners are…

  • Business/Productivity: Gmail (85.7%). The official Gmail app brings the best of Gmail to any device (tablet or smartphone) with real-time notifications, multiple account support and search.
  • Chat: Whatsapp (71.4%). WhatsApp Messenger is a freeware, cross-platform and end-to-end encrypted instant messaging application for smartphones. The application is used by more than 1 billion people across 180 countries.
  • Social: Facebook (57.1%).  The Facebook app is actively used by more than 350 million (1.65 billion monthly on all of Facebook) people across the world to share updates, content, and photos.
  • Convenience/Lifestyle: Amazon (42.9%). The Amazon app allows you to browse, search, get product details, read reviews and purchase millions of products available from Amazon.com and other merchants.
