UX Design: Our Emotional Online Existence

According to a recent study, 61% of website viewers navigate to a new site within 15 seconds of not being able to find the desired content. Reactions to websites are immediate and powerful.  So how do you ensure this knee jerk reaction is a positive one?

Enhancing user experience is a strategy many leading companies have started to adopt in order to position themselves as a leader in this competitive market.  User Experience (or UX) is the process of enhancing user satisfaction by improving the usability, accessibility, and pleasure provided in the interaction between the user and the website (or any digital product).

UX trends stimulate innovation and growth in an organization. Here are some of our top 3 design trends to follow this year!

1. Anticipatory Design – Minimize the burden on a user

One of the biggest reasons for applications and sites failing is because the user is required to make too many decisions to complete a simple task. As a result they make mistakes, get frustrated, and look for alternative solutions. Anticipatory design removes the roadblocks and creates an intuitive, enjoyable experience. A great example of this is how Netflix suggests what to watch next based on previous selections.

2. Storytelling – Successfully deliver “the meat and potatoes” to your target audience

User-driven storytelling allows users to access information and act on it with ease.  Focus on small detail.  Use your technological and creative expertise to design and develop a compelling story for your brand.  Don’t be afraid to be bold!  Responsive visuals and single page sites are examples of user-driven stories that is now being recognized as the perfect way to deliver content.

3. System Feedback – Acknowledging errors

Being able to laugh at yourself is a valuable trait, so let’s bring this with us into the design world!  If a page isn’t working, don’t leave the user hanging.  Instead, use the error as an opportunity to let your brand voice shine. Below is an excellent example:

Everyone is a born designer! Design not only helps facilitate great innovation, but also allows people to be better thinkers, facilitators and storytellers.  We have made it a company goal to always be thinking about creative solutions from this perspective.
